Hackathon on Spatial Omics and Image-Derived Data in Venice
Venice International University – San Servolo Island, Venice
Dal 19.04.2026 al 22.04.2026
Researchers and developers from around the world will gather to discuss bioimaging, interoperability, and scalable data analysis.
The Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padova, in collaboration with Venice International University, is organizing the Hackathon on Spatial Omics and Image-Derived Data, taking place from April 19 to 22, 2026, on San Servolo Island in Venice.
The initiative will bring together participants from Europe and the United States, both in person and remotely, from the Bioconductor and scverse communities, which are actively involved in developing computational tools for the life sciences.
The hackathon will focus on cutting-edge topics in spatial omics and image-derived data, with particular attention to:
-data representation;
-interoperable serialization;
-scalable management of complex datasets;
-interoperability with Python;
-interactive visualization.
The initiative is partially funded by the European Research Council (ERC), Grant CoG 101171662, and represents an intensive collaborative working opportunity for researchers and developers with software-oriented backgrounds, aiming to foster the development of open and shared solutions. Activities will be coordinated through GitHub and will continue beyond the duration of the hackathon.
Scientific organization is led by Davide Risso, Professor at the Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padova; Wolfgang Huber, Group Leader and Senior Scientist; and Helena L. Crowell, SNSF Postdoctoral Fellow.
