Undergraduate and graduate programmes in Statistics

The Department of Statistical Sciences currently offers two Bachelor's programmes (Laurea) and one Master's programme (Laurea magistrale) in Statistics.

All three programmes foresee both compulsory and optional courses. The organization of learning activities in the different suggested curricula ensures that the students' learning progress be consistent and yet allows some flexibility in building one's own study plan. Students are expected to choose courses that best match their own interests and abilities. They may select them from the departmental course offer or include classes offered by other departments within the University of Padova. Each course is assessed individually tipically by written, oral and/or practical examination.

At the end of their studies, students are supposed to defend a final thesis or dissertation, which investigates a specific topic, related to the student’s main field of study. At the Bachelor's level, students are invited to write their final dissertation presenting and discussing a placement experience they are encouraged to undertake with the assistance of the departmental Internship office.

Final degrees (diploma di laurea) are awarded on the basis of satisfactory results achieved in each course and in the final examination.

The official teaching language is Italian at both the undegraduate and graduate level, althogh the Department offers a number of courses in English each year.

As to encourage the use and konwledge of Italian as a foreign language, the University of Padova offers to all exchange students coming to Padova through a mobility programme an Italian language course. International students are supposed to enrol on-line and to take a placement test as to evaluate their current level of knowledge. The courses are organised by the University Language Center (CLA).

International students may agree with their course instructors on taking final exams in English (or possibly different language such as French). They are furthermore encouraged to frequently meet their instructors to discuss the lesson plan and to be eventually suggested on a complementary bibliography (usually in English or French), which may help them become more familiar with the subject and keep up with their Italian mates from the very beginning of each course.

Please, feel free to contact the faculty, the tutors or the coordinators of international mobility programmes should you face any difficulty in your studies.

The Department of Statistical Sciences also offers a number of extra-departmental courses (in Italian and English) in Statistics which are taught by Faculty members of the Department within Bachelor's and Master's programmes run by other departments of the University of Padova.

PhD programme in Statistics

The Department of Statistical Sciences furthermore offers a Doctoral programme in Statistics. All lectures are given in English.
