Research areas

The main research areas the Department of Statistical Sciences deals with are:

  • Statistical methodology and its applications. Methodological issues range from model specification to inferential analysis and computational aspects. The applications concern technology, manufacturing, finance, biology, medicine and the environment, among others.
  • Economic Statistics. In particular: statistical models for time series analysis, forecasting methods, statistical methods for labor economics and policy evaluation, methods and models for financial market analysis and forecasts.
  • Social Statistics. In particular: survey methodology and analysis of sample survey results, statistical models for individual and aggregated data, segmentation techniques, multilevel analysis.
  • Demography. In particular: population structure and dynamics, analysis and evaluation of demographic behaviors and policies.
