Componentes Intel de Costa Rica 1998-2002

Statistical Consultant

  • Provide consulting service to engineers in different areas (electrical, electronic, chemical, mechanical, industrial) who were in charge of the implementation of changes in the manufacturing process; the investigation had to provide enough statistical support based on an experimental design. Ensure a clear definition of the objectives, proper selection of statistical techniques, determination of a sampling plan consistent with the selected techniques, and adequate data analysis and conclusions.

  • Coordinate activities related to process control including variable selection to be controlled, frequency and number of units to be measured, automation system for data collection, and trends analysis in process stability and capability indicators.

  • Teach a series of formal courses developed by a team of Statisticians within the company. Statistical curriculum included: JMP basics (statistical software), Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), Reliability Statistics and Acceptance Sampling.

Intel Corporation Ireland 1999

Statistical Consultant

  • Teach courses as part of the statistical curriculum to the Process Engineering team in Dublin: JMP basics (statistical software), Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis).

  • Provide consulting service to engineers in the experiments they were performing at the moment and in other topics related to process control in Dublin.

British American Tobacco Central America 1995-1998

Market Research Executive

  • Coordinate with research agencies all the consumer surveys, data analysis and reports to be used by markenting specialists for all the countries in Central America. Typical quantitative studies included: Product Image, Consumer Practices and Product Comparison studies.

  • Supervise field work in order to assure correct application of criteria in sample selection and using the questionnaires and other support materials.

  • Give support to marketing analysts on how the use of speciaized software to perform data analysis from consumer surveys.

Universidad de Costa Rica 1990-1991, 1994-1995, 2006-today

Statistics professor and consultant

  • Teach courses at undergraduate and graduate-level within the Department of Statistics. Courses taught for undergraduate and graduate-level in the Statistics program include: Mathematical Statistics, Statistical Consulting, Industrial Statistics, Categorical Data Analysis, Survival Analysis, Applied Regression Models, Introduction to Multivariate Analysis and Design of Experiments. Courses taught for non-statistics students include: General Statistics, Statistics for Business Administration, Probability and Statistics for Engineers, Statistical Methods for Food Engineering and Biostatistics for Biologists. Most of the courses have a practical component using the computer laboratory and statistical software as JMP, SPSS or R depending on the level of the course.

  • Teach open courses on the use of JMP software and R language.

  • Provide consulting service to students from non-stats programs doing their thesis research within the university. Help on the definition of research objectives, sample design, preparation of research instruments, and application of statistical techniques for data analysis and presentation of results.

  • Participate in an inter-departmental group for the preparation of a test to measure quantitative abilities in the Institute of Psychological Research of the university.

El Colegio de la Frontera Sur, Chiapas, México 2004-2005

Statistical consultant

  • Provide consulting service to researchers, master and PhD students in Natural Resources and undergraduate students in Biology and Social Sciences. Cooperate in the phase of design of the research, as well as in the application of statistical techniques from descriptive to hypothesis test, and multivariate techniques.

  • Design and teach training courses in Statistics in different fields as Health and Population, Conservation of Biodiversity and Alternative Production Systems.

  • Design and teach advanced courses in Statistics in Multivariate Analysis, Logistic Regression and Categorical Data Analysis.
